Process Group Work

Human beings develop and live in groups.  Upon birth, we are cared for (however well or poorly) by the people around us: only with their care can we survive.  By design, we are group creatures, fundamentally interconnected and in need of others.  This is true no matter how alienated or alone we might feel.

Our first group is our family of origin. At birth, each of us is vulnerable and dependent.  We arrive barely formed, yet with great potential. Our potential is largely shaped by the group into we arrive, where we are held or not held, loved or neglected, treated with care or disrespect, cherished or abused.  Many of us experienced a mix of good and bad in our early family life.  We can benefit from spending time learning and growing in a new group, one more suited to who we are now.

In group, we learn more about ourselves and the potential waiting inside us. We discover more clearly how we feel and think, about ourselves and others, about relationships, about what scares us, what we love and hate, what brings us forward, what makes us want to turn away. Together, we discover how to better communicate, including knowing and saying what we want and need!
